Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Egypt international forward, Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 25-year-old has been the more complex of Manchester City’s signings to complete this month to date, having held long-standing conversations with the Bundesliga club for well over three weeks, negotiating over the fee involved in the transfer.
While there had been a feeling in some areas of the club that a deal could be done at around the £45 million mark, the Premier League champions have come to terms with the additional spend that has been required to bring in one of Europe’s premier talents.
As for talks on the side of Marmoush himself and his representatives, those discussions moved at a comfortable pace and were concluded far in advance of the two clubs shaking hands on an agreement with Frankfurt standing firm on an €80 million valuation for most of the market.
This is by far and away Omar Marmoush’s biggest move of his professional career to date, making his debut at that level of the sport for Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League back in July 2016 as a 17-year-old.
After just 16 appearances and two goals, the player was snapped up by VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga and made his debut for their senior squad in May 2020 against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, before embarking on loans to St. Pauli and VfB Stuttgart.
While Marmoush would return to Wolfsburg and score his first goal for the club in July 2022, his talents were ensured by Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in May 2023, while also handing the Egyptian star the number 7 shirt for the club.
The player’s time at Frankfurt has been nothing short of remarkable in front of goal in particular, with his tally since joining the club standing at 37 goals and 20 assists in just 67 appearances across competitions.
As such, it is no surprise to see that Manchester City have invested so heavily in the player’s talents and many of the support both in England and for the player in Egypt will be excited for his debut to come.
After Pep Guardiola’s side confirmed their third addition of the January transfer window, here is everything you need to know about the arrival of Omar Marmoush to Premier League champions Manchester City!
Eintracht Frankfurt and Manchester City have completed an agreement for Omar Marmoush in the region of £59 million, plus a further £5 million in bonuses, while the latter have confirmed that the player has penned a four-and-a-half year contract until the summer of 2029.
Reports in Germany have previously indicated that Marmoush’s salary at the Etihad Stadium will be around €16 million gross or €10 million net per year, having previously earned around €2 million gross at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Marmoush said, “This is a day I will never forget. To sign for Manchester City – one of the best teams in the world – is an amazing feeling. I am delighted, my family are so proud, and we are all very happy to be here in Manchester.
“With Pep, his technical staff and the world-class facilities here, players have everything they need to improve. That was really enticing for me when I had the chance to come here.
“And I cannot deny I also want to win trophies. City have been the most successful club in England for many, many years, so I know I am joining a winning environment and winning culture. I want to learn from the staff and my teammates, and I want to become a valued member of this winning team.
“I really am looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”
Begiristain told Manchester City’s official club website, “Omar is an accomplished and exciting forward, and I’m delighted he’s joining us. He’s had an outstanding season, and every time we have watched him, he has influenced matches.
“He has all the attributes a top-class attacker requires. He has outstanding pace and awareness, and he is exceptional in front of goal. He can also play a number of different positions, which is a really valuable asset.
“I also have no doubt that working with Pep and the technical staff here at City will see him further develop his superb attacking talent.”
Omar Marmoush has opted to adopt the number 7 shirt at Manchester City, becoming the club’s first player to wear that particular jersey since the likes of Joao Cancelo and Raheem Sterling.
At present, the presence of any clauses included in the contract of Omar Marmoush at Manchester City is unknown, while it is also not known whether Eintracht Frankfurt have any interest in the player’s future financially.
Omar Marmoush’s first available match for Manchester City will come on Saturday evening, as Chelsea visit the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, opening up the possibility of three first-team debuts for the club this month.
Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis were unavailable for the Champions League clash at PSG on Wednesday, as neither player can play at this stage of the competition, and the same will apply to the duo and Omar Marmoush when Club Brugge visit next week on matchday eight.
City are embroiled in an intense stand-off with Real Valladolid regarding interest in Sierra Leone centre-back, Juma Bah. The 18-year-old was absent from training on Wednesday as a deal moves closer, but the Spanish side are hugely frustrated by the handling of talks.
The Premier League champions remain interested in Juventus duo Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz in the days that remain in the market. The former could yet be more of a target for the summer, while the latter is believed to only be of interest on a straight loan agreement.
