Manchester City forward Ben Knight has completed a permanent transfer to Real Murcia.

The 22-year-old, who was part of Pep Guardiola’s recent pre-season tour squad of the United States, has completed an exit from the Etihad Stadium to the Primera Federacion in Spain.

Knight has been at Manchester City since 2018, and made his first-team debut for the Sky Blues in 2021, featuring during the FA Community Shield defeat to Leicester City at Wembley Stadium as a substitute.

The Cambridge-born forward has spent time at Crewe Alexander and Stockport County, with Knight helping Dave Challinor’s side to promotion to League One last season at Edgeley Park.

Knight has also previously made appearances for Manchester City’s academy in a number of youth competitions, and was also involved in a pre-season tour of America in 2022 with Guardiola’s first-team squad.

The forward has signed for Real Murcia on a free transfer, however Manchester City will retain a 20% sell-on clause, according to Michael Plant.

What have Manchester City said about the transfer?

A Manchester City statement said: “Ben Knight has left Manchester City to join Real Murcia on a permanent deal. The 22-year-old moves to the Spanish side ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Primera Federacion season.

“Knight will now continue his career in southern Spain in a move that remains subject to international clearance. Everyone at City would like to wish Ben the best of luck for the future and thank him for his efforts at City.”

How have Real Murcia reacted to the deal?

A Real Murcia statement said: “Real Murcia CF announces the signing of Ben Leo Knight (England, 2002) to reinforce the right wing for the 2024/2025 season.

“The new English winger arrives from Manchester City, current English champions and European champions in 2023. The new signing arrives at Real Murcia after completing the pres-eason with the Manchester City first-team under Pep Guardiola.

“The player is still waiting to pass the relevant medical examinations and obtain international clearance before being signed. The club would like to welcome Ben Knight and wish him the best of luck in this new stage that he is beginning with us.”
