Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Swansea are all interested in signing Folarin Balogun from Arsenal in the January window, but they will face competition from European clubs for the player.

The 20-year-old signed a new deal with the Gunners earlier in the year after much speculation but he has struggled for game time since, with the striker not featuring in the league since August.

Therefore, a loan move could be on the cards in the New Year and Sun reporter Alan Nixon has revealed that there is plenty of interest in Balogun.

Arsenal. Balogun. Interested club list grows. Middlesbrough still there. So are Bournemouth Swansea and St Etienne. Needs a loan move for games.”

With Mikel Arteta having several options ahead of the youngster at the moment, you would imagine that a switch in January will be sanctioned, particularly as Balogun is pushing for game time.

The prospect of helping Bournemouth in their automatic promotion push will appeal, although he may get more minutes at Boro or the Welsh side as they seek to make the top six.

The verdict

Whoever does land the England U21 international would be getting a quality player as Balogun is someone who has scored for fun at the U23 level and is expected to have a big future in the game.

But, he needs to be playing regularly now, so a loan move would be ideal for both Arsenal and the player, and the Championship could be the ideal league to aid his development.

However, the big issue for the three Championship clubs is the interest from abroad. It appears as though there will be a big battle to land the player in January and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
