Pre-season after brief breather

After our boys had a week or so off after the FIFA Club World Cup, our coach Thomas Letsch gathered the majority of his charges at 10:30 CEST on Monday to train again for the new season ahead. Those who were in action for their national teams in June are to join training on Thursday, while the returning  Alex Schlager & Co were put through their paces in our Taxham training centre.

In order to be ready for our first competitive match of the new season against SK Brann in a little over two weeks, our boys are to play friendly matches against FK Qarabag and Derby County. The cold and wet weather did not deter our squad in the slightest as they looked ahead to their upcoming opponents from Norway and Austria.

We have the first bit behind us with the superb tournament in the USA. We had competitive matches to help us prepare for what lies ahead and were able to find our way as a team a bit already. We are in a rhythm, so we took just a week off before we get going again. While we might have less of a holiday this summer, we are glad to take that for what we've experienced and what lies ahead with Champions League qualifying plus our domestic cup and league. We are pleased to be here and getting started!

Thomas Letsch

Preparing for a new season is always something special. We had a cool time in America, but we are pleased to finally have Champions League qualifying and the league ahead of us. My recovery has come on a lot, and I played a full part in training today – that's a good sign. I have said already that something has been brewing since the winter in terms of mindset. The time in America was very important for us to grow together - and now we have to keep up this momentum. I hope we will then achieve our aims this season!
