Sergio Romero opens up on strange last year at Manchester United after sealing a move to new club Venezia

Speaking via The Sun (h/t Daily Mail), Former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has opened up on a ‘strange year’ at Old Trafford after joining his new club Venezia in Italy.

The Argentinian shot-stopper joined the Red Devils in July 2015 but was never made the first-choice due to David de Gea’s excellent form between the goalposts. Regardless, he did manage to make 61 appearances across all competitions in the last six seasons.

However, with absolutely no game-time last season, Romero had eyed a move to Everton, who were keen on paying his £100,000-per-week wages. But disagreements between the Red Devils and the Toffees over a valuation of the loan fee led to the goalkeeper staying at Old Trafford.

After signing for Serie A side Venezia, the 34-year-old has opened up on a ‘strange year’ at United. He told, via The Sun (h/t Daily Mail):

The goalkeeper could now prove his mettle in Italy and perhaps even make the Manchester-based club regret their decision of letting him leave this summer.

However, with De Gea in exceptional form and Dean Henderson waiting in the wings, United are in a good position in their goalkeeping department.
