Tottenham's squad ranked from worst to best with Antonio Conte set to become manager | OneFootball

Antonio Conte is close to being named Tottenham Hotspur's new manager.

The Italian is expected to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked by the north London club on Monday morning.

Spurs have not had a very good start to the 2021/22 campaign at all.

They are currently ninth in the Premier League, having won five and lost five of their opening 10 games.

Conte is one of the best managers in the world and has the credentials needed to transform their season.

Ahead of his arrival, we've ranked the club's players from 'World-class' to 'Get rid'.

World-class:

N/A

Our definition of 'world-class' is a player among the top three in their position in the world.

Son-Heung min and Harry Kane have been world-class at times during their careers but both are not performing at that level at the moment.

Top drawer:

Hugo Lloris, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane

While Son and Kane can't be considered world-class at this moment in time, it would be harsh to put them in a lower category than top drawer.

If anything, Lloris has been underrated during his time at Tottenham. He remains one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Solid:

Sergio Reguilon, Cristian Romero, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Davinson Sanchez, Emerson Royal, Lucas Moura, Japhet Tanganga

All of these players should be important for Conte during the early days of his Tottenham career.

Conte is likely to play five-at-the-back, a system where Reguilon and Emerson should thrive. They both love going forward and will be given license to do so.

Romero hasn't quite lived up to expectations at Spurs but it's still early days, while Hojbjerg's energetic style means he's another player that should thrive under Conte.

Decent backup:

Pierluigi Gollini, Joe Rodon, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Bryan Gil, Oliver Skipp

All of the above aren't deserving of a starter spot under Conte, but are all capable backups.

Disappointing:

Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Steven Bergwijn, Matt Doherty

The quartet named above were all signed for big money and have not lived up to expectations.

Ndombele has so much ability but he hasn't shown it on a regular basis. He's one of the most frustrating players in the Premier League.

Doherty has struggled but is another player who will thrive playing as a wing-back under Conte.

Nevertheless, if any of the four were to be sold in January, there won't be many complaints.

Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Ryan Sessegnon, Jack Clarke

It's time for Spurs to let go of Alli. He isn't the player he once was and we can't see him getting back to his old self with Conte. We'd love to be proven wrong, though.

Winks has declined in recent years and should also be sold. Sessegnon and Clarke are still fairly young but are nowhere near the first team. Spurs should try and get as much money for them as possible before their values plummet completely.
