South Korea have been handed a major boost with the news that Heung-min Son will be available to represent his country at the World Cup in Qatar later this month.

Son picked up a nasty facial injury during Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League victory over Marseille last week which required surgery, throwing his participation at the World Cup into doubt.

But the 30-year-old has now confirmed in an Instagram post that he will be fit to play at the tournament.

“Hi everyone. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you all for the messages of support I have received over the last week,” wrote Son.

“I have read so many of them and truly, truly appreciate you all. In a tough time I received a lot of strength from you!

“Playing for your country at the World Cup is the dream of so many children growing up, just as it was one of mine too. I won’t miss this for the world. I can’t wait to represent our beautiful country, see you soon.”

South Korea begin their World Cup with a meeting with Uruguay on 24 November, before also facing Ghana and Portugal in Group H.
