Benfica are reportedly in talks to sign Tottenham and Australia star Hayley Raso.
The 30-year-old winger is approaching the final year of her contract at Tottenham, after joining the club from Real Madrid last year.
Raso had a difficult campaign at Tottenham who struggled in the Women’s Super League, finishing 11th out of the 12 teams.
It has been reported by the Athletic that Portuguese side Benfica are in talks with Tottenham, though an agreement has not yet been met.
Hayley Raso is a 30-year-old Australian winger who joined Tottenham before the start of the 2024-25 season.
She joined from Real Madrid, where she scored four goals in 28 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign.
Before that she had spells at Women’s Super League sides Everton and Manchester City.
Her best success in the English came at Manchester City, where she won the Women’s Super League title in 2022.
Raso is experienced on the international scene with 22 goals in 99 appearances for Australia.
She was nominated the 2023 Ballon d’Or Femenin alongside international teammate Sam Kerr. Raso placed 17th in the vote with eight points, while Kerr finished second to Aitana Bonmati.
Hayley Raso only joined Tottenham from Real Madrid in September 2024 on a two-year contract.
The Australian made an instant impact scoring in her debut – a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
However, the 30-year-old failed to score for Tottenham in her subsequent 12 appearances for the club.
It was a disappointing season on the whole for Tottenham who finished second from bottom, after winning just five out of their 22 games.
This led to the sacking of Robert Vilahamn, who was replaced by former Manchester United assistant Martin Ho.
To date, Tottenham have signed just one player for the upcoming 2025-26 WSL season.
The club signed Japanese defender Toka Kogo for an undisclosed fee from Feyenoord.
Spurs have also seen one departure with Becky Spencer leaving for Chelsea, where she spent the second-half of last season on loan.
The new Women’s Super League season gets underway over the weekend of September 6th and 7th.
Tottenham will discover the order of their opponents when the fixtures are released on Friday.
This will be the final season where the WSL will have 12 teams, before the league is expanded to 14 for 2026-27.
