You’ve got to be a very good teenager to catch José Mourinho’s eye.
Dennis Cirkin is a very good teenager.
The 18-year-old has been impressing plenty of people at Spurs this season, and the most important person has clearly taken a shine to this talented left-back.
Ryan Sessegnon may be the young left-back that most people in north London see as the long-term successor to Ben Davies, but don’t count out Cirkin.
Born in Ireland but having lived in England since he was three, Cirkin has risen through the youth ranks at Tottenham in double-quick time.
Often playing above his age group, the pacy defender was given his first taste of first time action in the FA Cup back in January against Middlesbrough.
He is yet to play in an U23 game this season but has been able to bypass that step into the first team after Mourinho watched back video of him impressing as Tottenham’s U19s beat Olympiacos in the UEFA Youth League and marked him out as a player to progress.
“OK, he’s 17, but he’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him to train with us, and to help his development,” Mourinho said of Cirkin.
Definitely one to watch out for in the coming months.
