Girona are closing in on the signing of Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil, according to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The La Liga club have been negotiating for the 23-year-old and are now in the final stages of securing a deal.

Gil has struggled to make any significant impact since his £21 million move from Sevilla to Tottenham in 2021.

Despite showing flashes of brilliance, he has been unable to establish himself as a regular starter.

With the club undergoing a squad overhaul under manager Ange Postecoglou, the Spanish winger has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Girona have identified Gil as a target to bolster their attacking options following a successful campaign that saw them qualify for the Champions League.

The departure of Savinho to Manchester City has created a void in their forward line, and the versatile Gil is seen as an ideal replacement.

The Catalan club have been working to convince Tottenham to part ways with the winger, and their persistence appears to be paying off.

Tottenham need to ramp up their transfer activity

Spurs have been slow out of the box in the transfer market. They need to ship off a few fringe players but have struggled to get suitors to bite.

Emerson Royal remains at the club despite negotiations with AC Milan. Richarlison also joined his compatriot on the pre-season tour even though Saudi Pro League clubs are keen on signing him.

Djed Spence, Sergio Reguillon, Giovanni Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp are still around despite having no future at the club. Spurs need to sell these players and use the money to fund their transfer plans.

Tottenham desperately need a striker and are dithering over a move. A defensive midfielder and potent right-winger should also be on the cards.
