Spurs Transfer News: Journo reveals why Gabriel Jesus chose Arsenal move over Tottenham

According to Fabrizio Romano, as per his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Spurs were in the running to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City this summer.

Tottenham Hotpsur’s Director of Football Fabio Paratici was simultaneously holding talks for Richarlison and Jesus this summer. However, the former Man City striker chose to join the Gunners instead, while Richy joined Spurs despite interest from other clubs.

“Tottenham were pushing for Gabriel Jesus as concrete option before while they were negotiating for Richarlison, this is Fabio Paratici style to negotiate for many players at the same moment.”

The transfer expert then clarified that being a guaranteed starter was an important criterion for Jesus when choosing his new club. He was going to struggle to vie for starts at City due to Erling Haaland, and at Spurs, Harry Kane is arguably untouchable in the starting XI.

“But for Gabriel the choice was clear as he wanted to be regular starter, exactly what Arsenal offered him.”

Jesus has been a regular starter for manager Mikel Arteta this season and it was expected after the club lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette left the Emirates in back-to-back summer transfer windows.

Richarlison has had to struggle for starts but he persevered and reaped the rewards of his patience. He was benched in our first four league games but then started and made telling contributions in the Premier League win against Fulham and the UEFA Champions League victory against Olympique de Marseille.

Both Jesus, typical of Brazilian players, are good with the ball at their feet and both of them can play as inside forwards and even out wide during matches if needed. The two come face-to-face in the north London derby at the Emirates on October 1.
