Franck Kessie has been a subject of a fair bit of speculation over his future in recent weeks. The Barcelona midfielder has endured a difficult start to his life at Camp Nou and many expect him to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window.

Barça themselves appear to be looking for a way to offload Kessie, who had joined the club on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

The club are reportedly open to sanctioning the sale of the Ivorian for a small fee of just €10 million as the player had joined the club on a free transfer. It is thought to be more important for the club to remove him from his current €5 million per season salary package.

Kessie’s departure could indeed go a long way in helping Barcelona open up a chunk of their wage budget, effectively allowing them to sign newer players in January.

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, there were many takers for Kessie in the summer transfer window, shortly before the player joined Barça. One of them were Tottenham Hotspur, who were keen on shoring up their options in the middle of the park.

The Lilywhites ended up signing Yves Bissouma in a big-money move from Brighton & Hove Albion. Although the club do have enough numbers of options in the midfield department at the moment, it remains to be seen whether or not they come back for the Ivorian in January.

With the player available for a cut-price deal, it could be an interesting opportunity for Spurs to sign Kessie and further enhance their options.

As for Barça, the departure of Kessie should not deter them from a sporting perspective, as the club already have other players lined to serve as a replacement. In fact, the former AC Milan star’s exit could finally pave the way for young Pablo Torre to find a permanent place in the senior side after the turn of the year.
