Arkadiusz Milik dreams over for Tottenham as striker seals Marseille move

Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced the transfer of Tottenham target Arkadiusz Milik from Serie A side Napoli to Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Marseille.

Milik moves to the Ligue 1 side on loan with an option to make it permanent at the end of it. The transfer sum being quoted is €8million + €4million add-ons.

This news comes as a blow to Tottenham, as the Polish striker was linked with a move to the London club last month. (h/t Football.london)

Spurs wanted to buy the striker in the summer, but a £25million asking price was deemed too much. Alongside Tottenham, Everton were also in the running for the former Ajax striker.

Jose Mourinho could have really used someone like Milik. The 26-year-old is yet to play this season but managed a combined 28 goals in his last two Serie A seasons with Napoli. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Not to worry

Tottenham do have a settled attacking pair of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, both of whom have been in prolific form this season. However, Mourinho is short on back up for the duo, at least on paper.

Spurs signed Carlos Vinicius on loan from SL Benfica in the summer. He has failed to become a trusted backup to Kane and will anyway return to his parent club in the summer.

Dane Scarlett and Troy Parrott have both impressed at the youth level for Spurs. However, both of them are teenagers and would require a lot of experience to become a regular feature in the first-team.

Nevertheless, the club does have some temporary solutions. Both Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura have played down the middle earlier in the careers, and could fill in there when required.
