Journalist Ryan Taylor feels the signing of “natural goalscorer” Kyogo Furuhashi would be a good one for Tottenham, as he could “chip in” in the absence of Harry Kane.

Given former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has just taken over as Tottenham manager, there’s likely to be links to a lot of his former stars. Furuhashi was linked before the Australian even stepped foot through the door.

It was stated Spurs wanted the manager to bring the Japanese forward with him. It’s little wonder why the north London outfit would have wanted the exciting striker on board.

Indeed, Furuhashi’s 27 Scottish Premiership goals were the most anybody managed this season. In all competitions, he netted 34 times over the course of the campaign.

The prospect of him joining Spurs will have only gotten stronger since Postecoglou was confirmed as manager. That move has been tipped to be a success, too.

Indeed, Daily Express journalist Taylor feels Furuhashi would make a great asset in certain situations.

“Would it be a good signing? I think so because when you have a top striker like [Erling] Haaland or Kane, you do sort of need a deputy that can chip in in the cup competitions and someone that can maybe come off the bench for the last 10, 15 minutes and Kyogo is a natural goalscorer,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

The situations Taylor mentioned are likely the ones Kane wouldn’t be playing in. Indeed, in cup games where Kane is being given a rest, or when the star has been taken off to conserve energy at the back end of a game.

Adding an electric forward who knows where the goal is would not give defenders a break, and would allow Tottenham to retain a genuine chance of scoring without needing to rely on Kane.

That would be a big difference from this season. The next-best goals tally after Kane’s 32 in all competitions was 14 for Heung-min Son, and then six after that.

Kane was head and shoulders above his teammates, and without him they’d have finished much worse than eighth place. With that being said, Furuhashi might be a good player to bring in and ensure Kane isn’t the only player trying his hardest each game.
