Tottenham will “save millions” on a Gareth Bale replacement if they take him on loan for another season.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid two key developments regarding the Welshman’s future.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnet told Sky Sports that the 31-year-old had been given a “tough ride” at Spurs and that “nothing had been discussed” as to a permanent deal.

That comes after the Daily Mail reported that chairman Daniel Levy will offer the next Spurs manager the chance to sign Bale on loan for a second season.

Kenny claims that Jose Mourinho’s dismissal in April bodes well for Spurs’ chances of keeping the four-time Champions League winner.

“They’ll save millions in the long run,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“He got a hat-trick at the weekend, obviously. But it’s been hard for him not getting enough game time under Mourinho. It’s been hard to get involved when he’s been coming on as a sub.

“I’m sure if he has the opportunity to come back under a new manager and get more guaranteed game time, it will suit Gareth Bale. It’s a no-brainer.

“He’s not exactly ridiculously old. I think he’s still worth £40million or thereabouts. That’s huge money, at the end of the day.”

Bale’s hat-trick against Sheffield United on Sunday took his tally to 14 for the season.

He has made 30 appearances in total, though he has started just eight times in the league.
