According to Spurs TV (h/t Mirror), Gareth Bale went on to explain why Lucas Moura did not join his goal celebration. Bale celebrated his goals against Burnley with a ‘WM’ gesture with his hands. However, Lucas refused to join Bale’s celebration and displayed an ‘L’ with his hand.
Bale’s celebration is actually in recognition of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and their work. For that, he makes a ‘WM’ gesture using his hands. He performed the celebration after scoring his goals against Burnley.
However, some of his colleagues misconstrued it and thought it had a different meaning. Lucas, instead made two ‘L’s’ with his hands to join Bale’s celebration. Bale clarified the whole thing and spoke how it was all a misunderstanding of the ‘WM’.
“because everyone is saying ours is Welsh Mafia, he’s decided to go with just Lucas!”
The two goals against Burnley were only his second and third goals in the league. Those took his overall tally to 8 for the season. Bale also spoke on his return to form after an injury-riddled start to the season on his return to the club.
“Yeah, I’m building. Yeah, it’s taken a while, but yeah, I’m happy. I’m growing in confidence, my fitness is getting better and obviously then I think you can see that in my performance.”
Even Jose Mourinho chimed in with some praises for the forward, talking about the physical performance. He was happy for Bale, given how the on-loan star helped Spurs get the win and how good a condition he is in.
Perhaps if Bale explained the meaning behind his celebration to his teammates, they would probably join him. However, fans would no doubt be happy with the Welsh wizard’s return to form with his goals and assists.
