Ben Davies claims Tottenham teammate Gareth Bale is ‘unjustly criticised’

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham defender Ben Davies has claimed that his Spurs and Wales international teammate Gareth Bale is subjected to a lot of unjust criticism.

The 31-year-old returned to Tottenham last summer on loan from Real Madrid. However, the winger endured a torrid first half of the season, struggling with form and fitness and as a result, struggling for game time.

However, things are starting to look up for Bale over the past couple of weeks with the Welshman making a solid impression in recent games against Wolfsberger and West Ham United.

Indeed, Bale has looked brighter and sharper in and around the box, scoring in both the legs against Wolfsberger and setting up one in the defeat to West Ham. And Davies, speaking out in support of his teammate, has claimed that he is unjustly criticised by people.

“Gareth has had a lot of criticism, probably unjustly, when he was at the top of his form. He is an incredibly tough person to have to deal with some of the stuff he has had to deal with off the field and still perform the way he has throughout his career. “Even after four Champions Leagues, what he’s done for the national team, what he did for Real Madrid, he still gets questioned about his ability. That must be tough to take. I think he deals with it pretty incredibly. He is a terrific footballer and a great bloke.”

Bale’s return to Tottenham hadn’t exactly gone to plans. However, if the Welshman is able to carry on his current from and end the campaign strongly, he could help the team to a top-four finish in the league.
