Transfer News: Real Madrid show interest in Tottenham star Serge Aurier

According to transfer news from Express, Tottenham defender Serge Aurier is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are keen on bolstering the right-back position and Aurier’s name has popped up on their radar.

Tottenham signed Aurier from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017. The Ivorian, though, had to largely play second-fiddle to Kieran Trippier in his first couple of seasons in North London.

Following the Englishman’s departure to Atletico Madrid in 2019, Aurier became the first-choice right-back but wasn’t convincing enough during the 2019/20 season, making crucial errors at the back. This forced Tottenham to sign Matt Doherty last summer but the Irishman has proven to be a dud so far, meaning Aurier has managed to retain his spot as the first choice.

Real Madrid have been dealing with constant injuries this season. They have been hit particularly hard in defence, where their first-choice players have been out for a significant amount of games. The right-back position was hit severely with Federico Valverde having to deputise at a point.

Due to this reason, Real have identified Serge Aurier as a cost-effective option to bring in and compete with Dani Carvajal. It has been reported that Aurier is aware of the same and has also held conversations about it with former teammate Raphael Varane. The report adds that the Ivorian might be available at a fee of £10million.

Spurs are not opposed to the idea of his departure as they want to raise funds. The sale of Aurier would not hurt the club much given they would still have Matt Doherty to fill in. It remains to be seen if Real act on this interest and pursue him in the summer.
