International: Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min backs Harry Kane to win World Cup Golden Boot again

Tottenham Hotspur and South Korean winger Son Heung-min has backed club teammate and England international Harry Kane to win back-to-back World Cup Golden Boots.

No player has ever won the top scorer prize in back-to-back tournaments in the history of the World Cup. Kane won the prize in 2018 in Russia after he scored six goals in the tournament and helped the Three Lions reach the semi-finals.

However, his club teammate believes the 29-year-old can break the record and win the prize again. This is what the Korean had to say on beIN Sports (h/t Daily Mail):

“Of course, I’m hoping he’s okay [after injury vs Iran]. He should be at this tournament. He can show everyone he’s one of the best strikers in the world. I wish him all the best and I hope he wins the Golden Boot.”

Kane featured for the Three Lions in their opening game against Iran. The English side were too good for their opponents as they thrashed them 6-2, with the Spurs striker getting two assists.

He also failed to score for the Three Lions earlier today (25 November) in their 0-0 draw against the United States. That’s no goals in two games with a maximum of five outings left for Kane.

While the 29-year-old did not score, he has been in good form this season. The England captain has 12 league goals in 15 appearances so far this season and has been crucial for Antonio Conte.

Son also featured for his country in their goalless draw against Uruguay. The 30-year-old played wearing a protective mask after suffering a fracture to his orbital bone earlier this month.

South Korea will, meanwhile, take on Ghana for their next game on Monday. The South Asian side will hope for a victory while the 30-year-old will also hope to score in the game and get his tally up and running as well.

If South Korea enjoy a surprise run in this tournament, as they did in 2002, there is no doubt that Son would have a big part to play. He shared the 2021-22 Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah.

A World Cup Golden Boot for him is hard but not impossible. And if Kane has to win the prize now after drawing two blanks, he will have to get multiple goals against Wales on 29 November if he wants to catch up with Enner Valencia, who leads the list with three strikes.
