Tottenham Hotspur have no desire to let Son Heung-min leave any time soon but the club captain has rejected offers of a new long-term deal, according to a report.

Despite remaining a regular starter, Son is at risk of failing to hit double digits in Premier League goals for the first time since the 2015/16 campaign. The 32-year-old forward has found the net on six occasions in the top flight this term, struggling to offer the same potency from a role wide on the left flank.

Spurs triggered a one-year extension clause in Son's contract at the start of the year, ensuring he will remain in north London until 2026, but The Times report the skipper has rejected the club's offers of a longer deal.

It's alleged that Spurs want Son, who playing for Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga priot to heading to England, to see out his playing days with the club.

Son's diminishing returns have not diluted the number of suitors. Manchester United have been spuriously linked with a shock move for Spurs captain, while Barcelona were previously rumoured to be interested.

Ange Postecoglou has full faith in his ageing captain, who has made 31 starts across all competitions this season - a tally only Pedro Porro can better. "You never want to try to predict with players like Sonny how long he will go for, because those kinds of players I think always defy whatever odds there are because of the way they look after themselves and conduct themselves," the Australian boss outlined.

"Even this year, as difficult as it has been for us I think his numbers still stack up. The end comes for everyone, we know that, but I've always found with the best ones, they dictate it themselves. They know themselves when the time is right."
