Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a massive boost in their search for a centre-forward to succeed Harry Kane this summer.

While Heung-min Son has proven he has what it takes to lead the line, Spurs still need a focal point to allow the South Korean to return to his more accustomed left-wing role.

Richarlison has also shown glimpses of his goalscoring prowess after embarking on an exceptional scoring streak during the festive period.

However, the goals have dried up since bagging a brace in a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park.

A centre-forward capable of consistently sticking the ball in the back of the net could make a world of difference for Spurs, who are eager to close the gap on the top three.

Luckily for Daniel Levy and co, one of the best in the league at scoring goals has been made available ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Brentford striker Ivan Toney could be available for around £30-40 million.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Toney’s future since he returned to the pitch in January, with the striker also opening the door to a potential summer exit.

Brentford are aware they’ll struggle to keep him at the Gtech Community Stadium with Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham United circling.

Toney has netted four times in 13 Premier League appearances since returning, although that tally should be significantly higher as he has also spurned eight big chances.

His profile is identical to that of Spurs legend Kane. Toney loves to drop deep to link up play and is capable of fashioning goalscoring opportunities for himself.

He has created three big chances this season, and his dynamism is one of the major appeals in his game.

Regardless of what Plettenberg thinks, Brentford are highly unlikely to accept less than £80m for their prized asset, even though he’ll be entering the final year of his contract at the end of the season.

But if the revised price tag for Toney is valid, Spurs must secure front-row seats in the race for his signature.

Securing a player with a vast skillset like Toney for around £40m would easily rank as the coup of the summer.
