Jamie Bowden has left Tottenham Hotspur in favour of a loan move to Oldham Athletic, as confirmed by the club in an official statement. The youngster joins the League Two outfit on a season-long loan deal, with Oldham having no option-to-buy clause embedded in the deal. The player will thus return to north London at the end of this season after gaining some experience in the fourth-tier of English football.

Who Is Jamie Bowden?

A native of Middlesex, Jamie Bowden has been a part of the Tottenham side since the age of six. He has since grown exponentially, even making his senior debut in a 2018 friendly at Girona.

Although yet to earn a competitive debut for Spurs, Bowden has consistently starred in the youth competitions. He was the captain of Tottenham’s Elite Development side in 2019/20 and a regular figure in the side.

The youngster has also represented the England and Ireland youth teams, most recently playing for the Irishman U19s. In addition, he was the “midfielder of the tournament” in a youth competition in Italy three years ago.

As far as his gameplay is concerned, Bowden is a holding midfielder by trade. He likes to operate as an anchorman in the middle of the park, someone who can drop deep to pick the ball up and move it forward. His excellent positioning sense, coupled with his passing ability, makes him quite efficient at his job.

Is It A Good Move For Bowden?

Jamie Bowden is certainly one of Tottenham’s most talented players. He has enjoyed a lot of success at the youth level, but unfortunately, the prospect of playing in competitive football has always steered clear of him.

A move to Oldham Athletic should serve him with an ideal opportunity to test his quality in the fourth tier of English football. Although the youngster certainly could have opted to play in a higher division, the regular chances he is expected to receive at Oldham should help him make a name for himself next season.

It should be quite useful in the long-term as Tottenham Hotspur do lack structure in their midfield department. Most of their current crop of options are too attack-minded while Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko are facing an uncertain future at the club.

Their potential departure this summer or perhaps the next could definitely open up a lot of prospects for Jamie Bowden. Hence, the 20-year-old will be definitely hoping to perform well at Oldham Athletic this season.
