Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to watch Villarreal star Pau Torres against Liverpool

According to Daily Mail Online, Tottenham Hotspur had sent their scouts to watch Villarreal star Pau Torres against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday. His side lost the second leg of the semi-finals 3-2 on the night after showcasing an impressive performance in the first half.

Tottenham have been long-term admirers of Torres, and they had even tried to sign him last year. However, they are now handed a second shot at finalising a move as the defender is looking for a fresh challenge elsewhere. There were doubts regarding his physicality, but those questions have been averted by his displays this season.

Spurs will face competition from Manchester City and Man United for the Spaniard, but that has not stopped the former from believing that they can complete a move. He would be expensive, though, as the La Liga club are pushing for a valuation closer to £55million, which is Torres’ release clause.

Spurs to finally end their long term pursuit?

Centre-back is an area that the North Londoners absolutely must strengthen ahead of the next term. After all, Antonio Conte uses a three at the back formation, which in and of itself calls for the need to have a healthy amount of reliable options.

That is not the case at this moment, considering how Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon have been cast aside by Conte. Moreover, Ben Davies has been used as a makeshift central defender, which puts into the picture the desperate need to bring in quality reinforcements.

Torres would be a great addition indeed, looking at how he has become a leading presence in the backline for the Yellow Submarines and the Spain national team. He would undoubtedly make us a better unit indeed, but it remains to be seen if we can meet the expenses for a potential transfer.

We still need to deal with both Manchester clubs if Daniel Levy can reach an agreement with Unai Emery’s side. Fortunately, it is good to know that the 25-year-old is willing to leave his current club, and we could arguably be the best destination at this moment.

While Man City are a better side than us right now, they have heavy competition in their ranks. As for Man United, they are in an unstable situation at this moment, which makes us an attractive prospect for the La Liga ace. However, it would still be best if we could offer him the possibility to play in the CL since that is the reason why he rejected us last year.
