Tottenham Hotspur on alert as Bayern Munich are willing to sell Marcel Sabitzer

According to the German outlet Bild (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur have become alerted to the situation of Marcel Sabitzer as Bayern Munich are willing to sell him this summer. His time at Allianz Arena has been disappointing, to say the least, having joined them only a season ago.

Despite having three years left in his current contract, Sabitzer’s future with Bayern Munchen is uncertain right now. They want to offload him in the summer transfer window to free their wage bill of his £8.6million yearly salary. Tottenham tried to sign him when he was at RB Leipzig, but they have now been linked with a move for the midfielder.

Arsenal have also been touted as a potential destination for the Austrian, but he is planning to remain at Bayern, as confirmed by his advisor Roger Wittmann. However, the German club are eager to part ways with Sabitzer for a fee of £13million, which they paid to sign him from Leipzig last summer.

Spurs need another midfielder?

Spurs are close to finalising a move for Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion as of now. Naturally, questions can arise on whether we need to sign another midfielder now that we are looking likely to make an addition in that area ahead of the upcoming campaign.

We also need to strengthen other positions in the squad, so the questions are certainly valid indeed. However, it is best to bring in another midfielder to have a good number of quality options for Antonio Conte to choose from in the next season.

Loan returnees like Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are set to depart this summer, while Harry Winks is also expected to leave alongside them. In such a case, Sabitzer could have a role in our team, with Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg forming the rest of the options available.

However, if Conte’s side are to pursue Sabitzer, they must not agree to pay the amount the Bavarians are asking for his signature. After all, his value has declined following a disappointing season with them, so we can rightfully demand a lower fee even if the current price is quite cheap indeed.

Then again, that is not the only obstacle that lies in our pathway, as the 28-year-old’s wages are quite large as well. We should negotiate and reduce that salary to something that falls under our structure while also not undermining Sabitzer’s current level of performance.

However, since the Bundesliga ace wants to remain with Julian Naglesmann’s side, it remains to be seen if he would entertain an exit if his side pushes him out of the door. It would be best if Fabio Paratici would discuss the matter with Conte as we may have another market opportunity at hand in this situation.
