Tottenham Hotspur are ‘happy to sit down and talk’ to star striker Harry Kane over a new contract, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 29-year-old’s current £200,000-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer of 2024, meaning he is fast approaching a crossroads in his career at Hotspur Way.

Tottenham Hotspur news – Harry Kane

Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici said the club was “very optimistic” of tying Kane down to a new deal back in October.

“Kane is the symbol of this club, the best scorer in history and captain of England,” he said. “We are confident and always in contact. There is a great relationship between him and the club, we are very optimistic.”

However, the clinical forward was close to joining reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in the summer of 2021 before he ultimately stayed put at Tottenham.

And reliable Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg recently revealed that ‘discussions have already begun’ between Kane’s agent and Bayern Munich over a potential move.

Those reports came before the Evening Standard then claimed that Tottenham would have to wait until after the World Cup before opening negotiations with Kane over extending his stay in north London.

What has Jones said about Kane?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Spurs have not yet ‘made a proposal’ to Kane but that they are willing to do so when he returns from international duty.

He said: “So, the information I’m getting is that there’s nothing happening on this before the World Cup’s over, but Tottenham are ready to talk to him about terms as soon as he’s ready to sit down with them.

“They haven’t actually made a proposal to him yet, but they’re happy to sit down and talk this through with Kane whenever the time comes.”

How important is Kane to Tottenham?

Kane has registered 261 goals and 62 assists in 408 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, picking up three Premier League Golden Boots along the way.

As per WhoScored, the 6 foot 2 ace has averaged 3.7 shots, 1.9 key passes, and 0.9 dribbles per Premier League game this season, placing him in the top three for each metric when compared to his teammates.

These figures clearly highlight how central Kane is to Tottenham’s attacking play, and his 13 strikes in 22 outings in the current campaign further emphasise that.

Antonio Conte will surely be desperate to return Kane’s services, therefore, and everyone associated with Tottenham will want to see him remain at the club for the foreseeable future.
