According to SampNews24, Tottenham are eyeing a swoop for Mikkel Damsgaard. The Premier League outfit have rekindled their interest in the Sampdoria attacker, following months of scouting. Sampdoria are not very keen on offloading Damsgaard in the summer, but due to the poor financial situation of the club, they could be forced to cash in on him for a fee of around €20 million.

Mikkel Damsgaard’s Rapid Rise To Prominence

A product of the Nordsjaelland youth academy, Mikkel Damsgaard joined Sampdoria last summer for a fee of just €6.75 million. He was brought in to add more attacking depth to the side, but the youngster has ended up becoming a key first-team member.

In his first season in Italy, Damsgaard notched up 35 appearances, scoring two goals while chipping in with four assists. Although his numbers might seem underwhelming for a winger, his overall influence has been far greater.

The 20-year-old still has room to improve in terms of his offensive skills. However, the Dane has improved his overall game incredibly well under Claudio Ranieri, becoming a key outlet in the first line of press.

Damsgaard’s tally of almost 30 pressures, 2.5 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per 90 minutes is indeed remarkable for an attacker. The winger has also proved himself to be a competent dribbler and has a lot of potential to become the next big thing in Danish football.

A Wise Option For Tottenham?

Tottenham‘s interest in Mikkel Damsgaard is quite interesting given how their investment in young attackers have failed in recent years. The likes of Georges Kevin Nkoudou, Ryan Sessegnon and Steven Bergwijn have all failed to live up to the expectations.

However, what makes Damsgaard a class apart from those attackers is his all-round gameplay. As mentioned earlier, the 20-year-old has a truly remarkable work ethic and is incredibly versatile for a player of his age.

Although a left-winger by trade, Damsgaard can play in attacking midfield and even central midfield. His willingness to win back possession might even make him a useful wingback if nurtured well, which should bode well for a Tottenham side that truly lacks utility players.

The addition of someone like Damsgaard, therefore, should make a lot of sense as he doesn’t only have the quality but also time on his side. And for a fee of just €20 million, he could indeed be a bargain for the Lilywhites this summer.
