Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur to bid for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic in January

According to Italian outlet TuttoMercato (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a massive bid for Fiorentina superstar Dusan Vlahovic in the January transfer window. They have decided to take the initiative amidst competitions from multiple Premier League clubs with Antonio Conte having identified the Italian as ‘Harry Kane’s successor’.

Vlahovic has not shown any signs of slowing down as he continues to be decisive in front of the goal. He was on the scoresheet again as he scored against Sampdoria yesterday in his team’s 3-1 win. His form has helped La Viola to contend for European places as they sit seventh in Seria A.

That has seen him increase his tally to 14 goals with two assists from 16 appearances this season. His goalscoring prowess has been rising since last season when he truly made a name for himself. Should we get his services in the winter transfer window, our chances of a top-four finish would be boosted as we have clearly struggled in front of goal.

The Serbian has a contract with the Seria A club till 2023 but, expectations are for him to leave, having rejected a contract extension. He has a valuation of £70million, which may seem expensive, but his displays show that the amount is warranted.

His current team is open to selling him in January to not lose him on a cheaper fee in the summer. Spurs are leading the race for his signature but will face competition from PL clubs such as Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Vlahovic to Tottenham?

Antonio Conte has approved of the signing of the 21-year-old while making him his top choice in the coming transfer window. With Harry Kane’s future still up in the air because of the summer saga with Manchester City, signing the Fiorentina ace makes even more sense.

Our goal tally is one of the worst in the league, having scored just 11 goals in 12 matches. We need to improve significantly in that department if we hope to challenge for silverware, and the Serbian striker could be one possible way of improving on that.

In a worst-case scenario, should Kane move away from N17 in the future, we would also need a replacement, and the Fiorentina ace could be that man. However, if the England captain stays with us, both of them could form a formidable duo under Conte- much like the Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku pairing at Inter Milan last season.

keeping tabs on for a while.
