Interest from Manchester City in Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie is unlikely to tempt the North London club into a sale of the highly-rated left-back, according to reports.

Etihad Stadium officials are currently in the process of formulating plans ahead of a summer transfer window that many are expecting to be the busiest at the club since the market that followed Pep Guardiola’s first campaign at Manchester City.

As the club continue to struggle in their Premier League duties with just a handful of games remaining, and the prospect of missing out on Champions League football for next season now very real, those in boardroom positions are scrutinising various elements of the team.

Among the areas likely to come under the microscope are the goalkeeping positions, depending on the futures of Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno, as well as central midfield and the wide defensive roles.

On the subject of the latter, conversations surrounding who Manchester City could look towards intensified this week, with the profile of Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie thrown into the mix for a new left-back at the Etihad Stadium.

However, according to the information of The Mirror’s John Cross, Spurs will resist any move for the Italian this summer despite links to City, who are likely to be including the left-back on a long list rather than their number one target in the position.

It is insisted that Tottenham do not want to sell a player who they rate highly despite a season disrupted by injuries, meaning any potential deal is ‘highly unlikely’ for the upcoming summer market as they aim to get the defender back to his best form and fitness.

As for Manchester City, the same report indicates that Juventus and Italy international Andrea Cambiaso is still believed to be Etihad Stadium officials’ first choice for a left-back signing in the coming months despite admiration for Udogie.

Manchester City’s current options at full-back are likely to be depleted during the upcoming summer transfer window with the expectancy being that Kyle Walker will officially bring an end to his legendary time at the club.

Having left Pep Guardiola’s side in January on loan until the end of the season, there remains the prospect of that deal not resulting in a permanent switch as AC Milan still hold the option to reject the player for the agreed €5 million option clause.

That would leave Walker seeking a new team regardless however, with the feeling in various quarters being that the veteran defender and former City captain being deemed surplus to requirements by those at the club.

In the event of not signing a new right-back in the summer market, Pep Guardiola would retain his existing options which include Matheus Nunes, Rico Lewis, Manuel Akanji, and John Stones – with the latter pair hampered by injury and fitness problems this season.
