Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to hijack Barcelona’s move for Swedish starlet Lucas Bergvall on deadline day.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, with the transfer insider claiming Spurs are in constant dialogue with the player’s camp over a move to north London.

Ange Postecoglou has already stated that any business for Tottenham ahead of the deadline is ‘unlikely’ at this stage.

Spurs have already snapped up Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, with both players being integrated into Postecoglou’s squad.

But Romano claims that Spurs are trying for one more signing ahead of tonight’s deadline.

Romano took to X on Wednesday evening and claimed that Spurs have made an ‘important proposal’ to sign Bergvall.

Barca remain confident over landing the 17-year-old though and are expecting him to agree to a move to Spain today.

“Barcelona remain confident and optimistic on Lucas Bergvall deal after meetings in the last two days,” Romano wrote.

“Tottenham keep calling player’s camp to hijack the move — important proposal made.

“But Barça remain confident, expecting Lucas to give green light on Thursday.”

Spurs have already missed out on Antonio Nusa this month after Brentford agreed a deal to sign the 18-year-old over the weekend.

While his move to west London is in doubt, Tottenham have moved on to other targets already.

Bergvall made 25 appearances for Djurgarden in Sweden last term and at just 17, he looks set to have a bright future ahead of him.

The youngster has been lauded as an ‘extraordinary’ talent and it’s no surprise to see him attracting interest from a host of top clubs.

Spurs are clearly keen to plan for the future by targeting up-and-coming stars. Their approach has worked well in recent years, with Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr emerging as two key players under Postecoglou this year.
