Tottenham Hotspur are expected to lure Pedro Porro to Hotspur Way ahead of the transfer deadline despite still being ‘in negotiations’ over the Sporting star, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has told GiveMeSport.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte may have bolstered his attacking options with the loan arrival of Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal, but he still has time to strengthen in other areas of the pitch.

Tottenham transfer news – Pedro Porro

According to Portuguese media outlet Record, Tottenham have reached a £42million verbal agreement with Sporting which will see Porro head to north London ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

The report suggests the deal could be completed within the next 24 hours as lengthy discussions have resulted in a positive outcome.

It is understood that Porro is preparing to fly to the capital with his representatives tonight and Tottenham are keen for the contract to be signed quickly.

The right-back is set to pen a five-and-a-half year deal and all parties are confident that his move will be signed off after lengthy talks.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently told GiveMeSport that Porro’s switch to Tottenham will be rubber-stamped ‘very soon’.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Porro?

Sheth understands that there is an expectation for Tottenham to get a deal for Porro over the line despite still being around the negotiating table.

The Sky Sports reporter feels the Spaniard appeared to be bidding farewell to the Sporting fans after his current employers missed out on silverware on Saturday.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Sunday, Sheth said: “They’re still in negotiations, as far as I’m aware, but we do expect that to have a positive outcome.

“If you look at what happened last night, Sporting lost to Porto in the Portuguese League Cup final and Porro started that game which, during the week, was questionable because we didn’t know how far these negotiations had gone.

“But the head coach Ruben Amorim had said that he is ready to play and able to play. He did play but, at the end of the game, his reaction towards the Sporting crowd kind of intimated that he was saying goodbye to them.”

How has Porro performed so far this season?

It is easy to see why Conte wants to lure Porro to Tottenham as, according to Transfermarkt, he has already chalked up 14 goal contributions this season.

The 23-year-old also compares favourably to fellow right wing-back Emerson Royal, who has been on Spurs’ books since completing a £25.8million move from Barcelona in August 2021.

That is because FBref statistics show Porro has averaged more goals, assists and shots than the Brazilian per 90 minutes this term, emphasising that he could make Spurs even more of a force in the final third of the pitch.

Although his numbers going forward are impressive, the former Girona man’s defensive contributions should not be overlooked as Sofascore data demonstrates he makes 1.4 tackles per outing in the Portuguese top flight.

WhoScored and there is no doubt that Porro would be an astute signing for Tottenham.
