Tottenham are the “most likely” club to sign Middlesbrough ace Djed Spence, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Champions League club have been chasing the right-back’s signature for several months and are still keen on bringing him to the club.

What’s the latest news involving Spence?

According to Sky Sports, Spence first came to Spurs’ attention in January, with their interest ramped up when Fabio Paratici went to the City Ground to watch the 21-year-old.

Spence, described as ‘incredible‘ by Daniel Taylor, would have impressed the Tottenham hierarchy with three goals and five assists in 50 games as he helped Nottingham Forest end their 23-year wait for Premier League football via the play-offs.

But Spurs face competition from the likes of Roma, Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle for his services, although with Antonio Conte’s side able to offer Champions League football, The Athletic revealed that Spence, who’s set to cost £20m, has decided that Tottenham is his ‘preferred choice’.

However, Fabrizio Romano revealed last weekend that the north Londoners haven’t made an official bid for the right-back although, while Sky Sports believe that further talks will take place this week, with Daniel Levy set to be ‘personally leading’ the club’s pursuit of the player.

And Talbot is confident that Spurs remain in pole position to land Spence despite the lack of developments of late.

What did Talbot say about Spence?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “From what I hear, he will be sold by Middlesbrough in this window, that’s for definite and it’ll either be Nottingham Forest, who he loves and his family and friends love, or he’ll go to Spurs because they’re attractive and have Champions League football and Tottenham are the most likely to sign Spence at the moment.”

Will Tottenham finally get their man?

Despite this transfer quickly becoming a saga, all roads do point towards Spence eventually signing for Spurs.

Not only have The Athletic revealed that Spence has made his own decision up, but Conte and co. aren’t being linked with any other right-backs, which is a major indication to exactly how much they want the youngster.

With Middlesbrough needing the money to fund their own summer of spending, the fee isn’t likely to be an issue for Tottenham, especially given their recent £150m injection of cash.

Therefore, with Spence now back from his time away with England Under-21s, the deal should start to take shape and Conte might finally get his man.
