Tottenham transfer news – Adama Traoré

According to 90min, Tottenham still have an interest in signing Traoré in the new year, with the Wolves man having just six months left of his £43k-per-week contract at Molineux to run by the time the January transfer window comes about.

After having been part of the Spain squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020, the winger missed out on the World Cup squad this term having only scored three goals across spells at both the West Midlands club and Barcelona since the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

Jones has previously told GiveMeSport that the speedster is currently weighing up the options in front of him, including proposals from other clubs and the current set-up at Wolves.

However, the journalist has “always suspected” that Tottenham could make a move for Traoré again, but the future of the 26-year-old is now less certain following Wolves’ appointment of Julen Lopetegui as head coach in November.

What has Jones said about Tottenham and Traoré?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I’ve always suspected that they might go in for Traoré again at some point.

“It’s just difficult to know right now how likely it is that it can happen in the next window, given that Wolves are undergoing so much change.

“They’re in a really difficult position in the league that they need to get out of quickly.”

Would Traoré be a good signing for Tottenham?

Traoré would likely prove to be a versatile signing for Conte’s squad in the new year, with the wide man capable of playing out on the wing or at wing-back if required.

Despite his aforementioned struggles in front of goal, the Italian may see him as a useful option in his back five, with the former Middlesbrough man providing a crucial outlet for getting his side up the pitch, as shown in the fact that he ranks in the top 1% of attacking midfielders/wingers across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for dribbles completed per 90 minutes (4.49) over the last 365 days, according to FBref.

In spite of the wide man’s 5 foot 10 frame, the £18m summer signing from 2018 also ranks in the top 11% for winning aerial duels per 90 minutes (1.44) according to the same stats provider, suggesting that his strength and jumping reach would make him a useful asset in Spurs’ backline.

Whilst Traoré’s Wolves future remains up in the air, there’s no doubt that if Tottenham could secure his signature on the cheap in the new year, they would be gaining at the very least a versatile and unique asset to their armoury.
