As it stands currently, it would seem that Manuel Akanji has every chance to leave Manchester City before the transfer window closes. As reported yesterday, Esteemed Kompany sources had learned that AC Milan were moving to sign the versatile centre-back. Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Bayer Leverkusen are also credited with an interest in signing Manuel Akanji. Now, a new report indicates that Tottenham are also eager to sign Akanji. The Swiss international may have a choice to make about where he plays his football if he does decide to leave Manchester City.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham have now entered the race to sign Manuel Akanji. Furthermore, Romano reports that Akanji is one of three centre-backs on Tottenham’s shortlist. Romano further reports that AC Milan is willing to pay £15 million to sign Akanji. But they are yet to agree on personal terms with the Swiss international. Lastly, Romano reports that Tottenham and AC Milan are eager to sign Manuel Akanji before the transfer window closes.
As the clock counts down until the transfer window closes, Manuel Akanji will have a decision to make over his future. The Swiss international has two years remaining on his current contract with Manchester City. If he doesn’t want to leave the club, he won’t. Akanji holds all of the cards in regards to his future. But he may be starved of opportunities to play regularly if he decides to stay at Manchester City.
So far this season, Akanji has been an unused substitute during Manchester City’s 4-nil win over Wolves. He didn’t make Manchester City’s matchday squad for last weekend’s loss to Tottenham. It would appear that Manuel Akanji’s days at Manchester City could be numbered. A move away from City could allow him to play regularly elsewhere and also help City trim the size of their squad.
Currently, there is a host of suitors eager to sign Manuel Akanji. Tottenham are the latest club to join the race for his signature. It seems that Akanji will have a decision to make over where he will play his football next season. Whether he decides to stay at City or move on remains to be seen.
