Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham enquire about Chelsea target and Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries

Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry to sign Chelsea target and Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, as per 90min (h/t Football.London).

Dumfries joined Inter in the summer of 2021 from PSV Eindhoven but his stocks have risen manifold times since then. He was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea this summer.

But according to Fabrizio Romano in September, Dumfries stayed so he can get regular playing time with I Nerazzurri and retain his place in the Netherlands’ squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He has managed to do that. Dumfries has two goals and three assists in 20 games under manager Simone Inzaghi this season and has played in every single minute of the Netherlands’ World Cup games.

Spurs or Chelsea?

Dumfries’ strengths align with what manager Antonio Conte envisages in his right-wing-backs. He is attack-minded, as shown by his history of playing in an advanced role down the flight flank.

And he is no slouch in defence as well. At 26, he is also in his prime years. Now, if it comes down to Chelsea and Tottenham, one would expect the Lilywhites to have an upper hand.

Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could face competition for Denzel Dumfries.

It has been claimed that manager Antonio Conte doesn’t mind Emerson Royal leaving in the January transfer window. The former Barcelona right-back has failed to win over Spurs fans, while Matt Doherty and Djed Spence continue to struggle for meaningful minutes.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have Reece James. One cannot expect manager Graham Potter to have both the England international and Dumfries, and keep both happy.

Right-wing-back is arguably one of the few areas our team could do with instantly upgrading, especially in January, to ensure a strong finish to the season.
