Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has revealed that loanee Dane Scarlett is looking very likely to return to Tottenham Hotspur next month, revealing this news to the East Anglian Daily Times.

Scarlett has been part of an exciting season at Portman Road - and although the Tractor Boys suffered a 4-0 loss against Leeds United yesterday - this term can still be viewed as a very successful one for McKenna's men thus far.

They are currently in the top two despite the fact McKenna wasn't given a huge amount to spend during the summer, with the loan market coming in handy for the former Manchester United coach.

Unfortunately for Scarlett, he hasn't richly benefitted from his loan spell at Portman Road so far, seeing his game time limited under McKenna which isn't a massive surprise considering he has other attacking options at his disposal.

Making just 12 appearances for Ipswich this season, he has spent a decent chunk of the campaign on the bench, either as someone who has come on to make a cameo or an unused substitute.

With this in mind, it's no surprise that he has been unable to get himself on the scoresheet for Ipswich thus far, and he was completely absent from the matchday squad against Leeds yesterday.

Dane Scarlett set to return to Spurs

Although Scarlett hasn't played too much this term, he has been a regular part of the matchday squad this term and his absence for the trip to Elland Road was noticeable.

This prompted a question from journalists after the game - and McKenna gave a clearer update on the attacker's situation at Portman Road.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, the Tractor Boys' boss said: "There's conversations with Tottenham at the moment.

"It looks very likely that he'll be recalled at the start of January.

"Tottenham have injury issues at the moment and they have their main forward going to the Asian Cup."

Losing Dane Scarlett may not be too much of a blow for Ipswich Town

Considering his record at Portman Road, Scarlett may not be too much of a miss.

He's clearly a talented player - but he can be replaced during the January window.

The only problem Ipswich may have is persuading another club to let a player in Scarlett's position head out on loan to Portman Road without assurances that he will be fully involved.

And the free agent market isn't what it was back in the summer - so they may need to spend some money to ensure they have an adequate replacement.

It wouldn't be a surprise if the board provided McKenna with the necessary funds considering how well he has done during the first half of the season.
