Troy Parrot grabbed a first half assist as Excelsior secured a 2-1 first leg victory away to ADO Den Haag in the promotion play-offs. The Eredivisie side were 2-0 up after just 25 minutes, with Tottenham loanee Parrott assisting Couhaib Driouech for the opener. The Moroccan then turned provider himself, grabbing an assist as Lance Duijvestijn made it 2-0 to the Eredivisie side.

However, the home side did not give up and created plenty of chances. They finished the game with 21 shots, but only Henk Veerman’s effort in the 71st minute found the back of the net. Former Arsenal academy prospect Joel Ideho added some more North London flavour to the match with an assist.

Yet all is not lost for the side from the second tier. They have, remarkably, been poor at home in recent months, with their last win coming at the beginning of March. They drew their first leg of the play-offs at home 2-2 before winning away from home. Given that they created plenty of chances, they should be confident that they can go to Rotterdam and get a result if they put more of them away.

Excelsior were better at home than they were away during the 2023/2024 Eredivisie season, so will hope that they can maintain their advantage on Saturday evening.
