Tottenham Hotspur ‘like’ Nicolo Zaniolo but are unwilling to meet demands put in place by Roma as they look to lure him to Hotspur Way, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has told GiveMeSport.

Spurs completed their first signing of the January window by sealing the loan acquisition of Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal earlier this week, but head coach Antonio Conte could add further fresh faces to his squad ahead of the transfer deadline.

Tottenham transfer news – Nicolo Zaniolo

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Zaniolo had no intention of joining Bournemouth after setting his sights on linking up with Tottenham or AC Milan.

The respected journalist suggests the attacking midfielder, who has asked to leave Roma, snubbed a move to the south coast despite a £27million proposal put forward by the Cherries being accepted.

Zaniolo’s decision to turn down a move to Bournemouth has left his current employers furious and the Serie A giants reserve the right to implement disciplinary measures against him.

Tottenham have been interested in signing the 23-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season, but Roma are only willing to sell him or sanction a deal which involves an obligation to make the move permanent.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Spurs identified Zaniolo as a target due to being able to give them a ‘spark’ in the final third of the pitch.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Zaniolo?

Sheth understands that Tottenham, who have reached a £42million verbal agreement with Sporting for Pedro Porro, are admirers of Zaniolo.

But the Sky Sports reporter believes Roma are unwilling to allow the north Londoners to sign the Italian on a temporary basis.

Sheth told GiveMeSport: “I think they like the player, but I just don’t think they want to do the deal that Roma would want to do.

“They want the €30million in a permanent deal, whereas I think Tottenham want, ideally, a loan with an option that becomes an obligation. Roma aren’t interested in that.”

Should Tottenham sign Zaniolo ahead of the deadline?

Zaniolo has been struggling to rediscover his best form this season, with Transfermarkt statistics showing he has only found the back of the net twice.

However, it is abundantly clear that the former Inter Milan man is a serious threat when he is full of confidence as he has racked up 42 goal contributions during his time on Roma’s books.

The fact Zaniolo is wanting to leave the Stadio Olimpico, where he is on a contract worth £76,000-per-week, could be used to Tottenham’s advantage.

But the capital club have just bolstered their attacking options by acquiring Danjuma after hijacking his move to Everton.

The Dutchman enjoyed a dream debut, scoring in the FA Cup fourth round win over Preston North End on Saturday, and his arrival may mean a move for Zaniolo should move onto the backburner for now.
