Daniel Levy’s ‘tempestuous temper’ has reportedly put Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim off the prospect of replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are on the lookout for a new permanent manager ahead of next season. This comes as the club’s hierarchy made the decision to part ways with Conte during the international break.

The Italian head coach was due to be out of contract in the summer but he has left the club after hitting out at his players following Tottenham’s disappointing 3-3 draw against Southampton.

It has since been confirmed that Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason will lead the team until the end of this season.

Tottenham are aware that they are unable to attract a new permanent head coach with just ten league games left of the 2022/23 campaign.

Portuguese outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Amorim is opting to remain at Sporting Lisbon over joining Spurs.

Amorim does not consider Tottenham to be a ‘viable’ option and this is reportedly partly down to Levy’s apparent ‘tempestuous temper’.

The 38-year-old ‘wouldn’t like to leave Sporting during the season’ and ‘he’s still focused on winning a league title with the club before the end of his contract in 2026’.

But the club’s president –  Frederico Varandas – is aware Amorim will move on ‘sooner or later’. This is even though a €30m release clause is included in his current contract.

The report adds Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino are in ‘pole position’ to join Tottenham.

Jamie O’Hara thinks it would be an “unbelievable appointment” if Spurs are able to bring in Nagelsmann.

“I’d love Spurs to get Julian Nagelsmann, he’d be an unbelievable appointment,” O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport.

“He’s a top, top manager. Bayern Munich were mad to sack him. He was only one point behind Borussia Dortmund, he had a 70% win ratio, he won every Champions League game and was in the quarter-finals. I think it was a crazy decision to get rid of him. He’s the best young manager in the world and I’d love him to go to Spurs.

“Tottenham have to go and get one of Nagelsmann or Mauricio Pochettino. That’s it, no one else. Nagelsmann, for me, because he’s become available, he has to be the number one target. A manager like him doesn’t come along very often, so Spurs should do all they can to try and get him.

“If not, they’ve got to bring in Pochettino, because he knows the club, he knows what it’s about, he’s still got the love with the fans, the fans still love him and I think him coming back would bring that feel-good factor. But how long does that last? If he’s not getting backed, and he’s not bringing the right players in, things can turn sour quickly.

“But for me, they are the only two managers Spurs should be looking at.”
