Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on Wigan striker Kyle Joseph who is also attracting interest from Celtic, Rangers and Sheffield United – but won’t be getting involved in any potential auction for his services in the final few weeks of the January transfer window, per Football London.

Joseph has burst onto the scene for the Latics in League One this season, getting his chance at regular game-time due to Wigan’s desperate off-field situation, having been in administration for over six months now.

The departure of talismanic Joe Garner led to Joseph’s emergence, and the 19-year-old has took it with both hands, scoring five goals in 12 league outings as he leads the line for a youthful Latics.

It was his hat-trick last month against Burton Albion that made him hit the headlines, and it seems as though a number of clubs are interested in his services.

Surprisingly it was league rivals Blackpool who were said to have made the best offer so far last week by Alan Nixon, but it wasn’t enough to tempt the administrative staff at the DW Stadium and Seasiders boss Neil Critchley has since played down their interest.

Spurs though look to the the biggest side in for Joseph, and they have form for looking at young Wigan stars after they signed Alfie Devine in July – the 16-year-old made his first-team debut for Tottenham in the FA Cup against Marine last week and went on to score.

Joseph reportedly snubbed Spurs in the summer, but Alasdair Gold of football london believes that the club are keeping a close eye on his situation as his contract is set to expire in the summer.

Wherever Joseph lands another club would have to pay compensation, but it’ll likely be less than what they’d have to pay this month – which is why Tottenham look like they’re willing to wait to seal the deal for the Scotland youth international.

The Verdict

Joseph would be a risk-free addition for any club this month, and considering the situation that Wigan are in it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to turn away offers of around £1 million.

Spurs do already have strikers with massive potential in Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett, but the former isn’t exactly pulling up any trees at Millwall on loan right now.

Joseph meanwhile is already making a name for himself in the EFL, and if he sees how quick former Latics youngster Devine got a chance in the first team, it may tempt him to hold out until later in 2021 for Tottenham to make a fresh approach for his services.
