Manchester United are preparing for yet another clearout this summer, with several first-team regulars expected to be shown the door. Erik ten Hag’s first summer in charge saw over 10 players depart and some of those players will be returning this year after season-long loans.

Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Amad Diallo and Dean Henderson have all spent the season out on loan and their futures at the club are all in doubt.

Henderson, in particular, faces the battle of convincing Ten Hag that he is capable of removing David de Gea as the Dutchman’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Henderson has been linked with a move away from the club for several years now but a transfer has never materialised. Now, it’s being reported that Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the 26-year-old.

That’s according to ESPN, who say that Antonio Conte’s men would be keen on bringing the shot-stopper in if United decide to let him go this summer.

As per the report, Henderson is set to discuss his future with United but he is keen to play regularly and eventually force himself into the England fold once more, with a view to making the squads for the next two international tournaments.

It’s claimed that Tottenham are scouring the market for potential replacements for Hugo Lloris, with Everton’s Jordan Pickford also among the players considered.

De Gea has less than four months remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford and according to the report, talks with the Spaniard’s representatives over fresh terms are underway.

SN’s verdict… De Gea signing a new contract would almost certainly end any hopes of Henderson claiming a first-choice place at United, and the Englishman’s animated media appearances have done very little to help his cause.

Henderson spoke out on his frustrations of not playing at Old Trafford last year and his comments were not received well by United supporters.

Henderson has two years remaining at United, with the club also holding an option to extend his deal for an additional season. That puts United in a strong position at the negotiating table.
