Tottenham are likely to make Djed Spence their fourth signing of the summer transfer window, according to The Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Antonio Conte has already added Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma to his squad as he gears up for his first full season in north London and he is now targeting another addition in the 21-year-old.

What’s the latest news involving Spence?

Tottenham’s interest in Spence dates back to January, soon after he caught the club’s eye with his performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

That led to Fabio Paratici going to watch the right-back in person at the City Ground, and since then, they’ve always looked the favourites to sign Spence, whose preferred move is to N17.

Initial talks have already taken place, but the Champions League outfit believe the England Under-21s star is worth just £10m, while Boro value him at around £15m, which saw discussions stall.

According to Sky Sports, further talks were set to take place this week, with Daniel Levy personally leading the charge to bring him to Tottenham.

Spence, described as ‘incredible‘ by Daniel Taylor, has gained attention following his loan spell at Nottingham Forest, which saw him score three goals and lay on five assists to help Steve Cooper’s men gain promotion back to the Premier League via the play offs.

Despite Spurs and Middlesbrough failing to reach an agreement during the first round of talks, Taylor is confident that Conte will eventually get his man.

What did Taylor say about Spence?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Spence will be Tottenham’s fourth signing. The kind of noises I was getting around Spence was they were going to bid after the end of the international break, but that didn’t happen, although that’s not to say their interest in Spence has cooled.

“It looks like they may have had an opening offer rejected, but Spurs want to get the deal done, and Forest are looking at other targets.”

How important is signing Spence?

If Tottenham want to continue making strides under Conte, signing a competent right wing-back was always going to be key.

Emerson Royal ended last season in good form, but he directly contributed to just two goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.

To put that into perspective, Spence managed eight and although the majority of those were in the Championship, his performances in the FA Cup were a taster of what he can do against top-flight level opponents.

Matt Doherty, who was in fine form prior to his season-ending injury, might have something to say about Spence coming in, but his arrival instantly improves Spurs’ right-side.
