Transfer News: Tottenham battle Arsenal, Everton for Joaquin Correa

According to transfer news from Corriere dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo via Sports Mole), Tottenham Hotspur are involved in a three-way tussle with Everton and Arsenal for Lazio forward Joaquin Correa.

Having started out at Argentine outfit Estudiantes, Correa made his way to Europe in 2015, signing for Sampdoria. The forward, who can play in multiple positions in the final third, then signed for La Liga outfit Sevilla in the summer of 2016, before returning to Italy with Lazio two years later.

Since signing for the Biancocelesti, the 26-year-old has made 117 appearances, in which he has managed a return of 30 goals and 18 assists. Correa produced a tally of 11 goals and six assists in 38 games across all competitions in 2020/21.

Joaquin Correa is a transfer target for Tottenham

Heading into the new season, though, the Argentine international looks set to be on his way out of the Italian capital club though, with Lazio even slapping a €30m valuation on their forward. And his availability for a transfer this summer has alerted several top clubs in Europe, including Tottenham. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Tottenham’s need for attacking reinforcements stems from the lack of cover for Harry Kane in the No. 9 role while Gareth Bale’s loan spell has also ended. Bryan Gil’s imminent arrival is a good sign, but adding another option in light of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura’s inconsistent for makes sense.

To that end, Correa, who has been a steady and solid, if not spectacular, performer for Lazio can be a handy signing. However, Tottenham will have to face competition from arch-rivals Arsenal as well as Everton in race for the 26-year-old. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
