Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are now ‘really close’ to signing right-back Pedro Porro from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

Arnaut Danjuma is currently Tottenham’s only signing this month. He has joined the London club on loan even though it initially looked likely that he would sign for Everton.

Spurs are not stopping there as they have also been targeting Porro throughout this transfer window.

The Spaniard impressed against Tottenham in the Champions League group stages earlier this season. Sporting Lisbon picked up four points from their two games against Antonio Conte’s side.

Conte has been keen to strengthen at right wing-back with him not overly convinced by Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty or Djed Spence.

Porro has been Tottenham’s preferred option this month, with it understood that he has a €45m release clause in his contract.

Romano has good news for Spurs supporters as he is reporting that Porro’s move to the Premier League outfit is now ‘really close’.

The transfer guru adds that Porro has ‘agreed to sign a contract until 2028’. Tottenham may not stop there as Romano hints that they could be one of the ‘Deadline Day surprises’.

‘Tottenham are really close now to signing Pedro Porro, he’s said yes to Tottenham and everything is ready, we’re just waiting for the final details and then it’ll be “here we go!”,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

‘Tottenham and Sporting are close to agreeing a €45m deal and the final details will be about instalments, but he’s agreed to sign a contract until 2028 and it’s really close.

‘Tottenham are not 100% done yet in the market, they are exploring and looking for opportunities and options – the situation is open. They could be one of the Deadline Day surprises.’

Gary Neville thinks it’s a “myth” that Conte has not been backed in the transfer market.

“He’s spent £190m worth of signings in two windows and that doesn’t include Kulusevski who’s still on loan technically,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“The idea that Spurs haven’t supported him is wrong. It’s a myth. I think [Conte and Daniel Levy] should shake hands, sign a two or three-year deal and get themselves right, because it feels in some ways they’re wandering down the road aimlessly as if they’re not mates.

“Why would they not be mates? Conte’s got Tottenham into the Champions League, he’s also been back and given £200m to get the players he wants, I’m not sure why these dark clouds are appearing over Spurs.

“It’s going really well at Tottenham, I’d say they’re on track for where I thought they’d be.”
