The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have been forced to sweat, amid their ongoing efforts to land teenage sensation Lucas Bergvall.
The name of midfielder Bergvall has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes after Barca’s long-standing efforts to bring the Swedish sensation in from Djurgårdens finally appeared set to bear fruit.
Bergvall, for his part, was spotted in Spain on Tuesday, to hold direct discussions with Blaugrana sporting director Deco.
The talks were widely reported as having been productive, with official confirmation of Bergvall’s winter move to the Camp Nou, as a result, having been labelled as all but imminent.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media late on Wednesday evening is anything to go by, Deco and his team do not appear to be in the clear just yet.
This comes amid further claims that Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur have now entered the fray for the 17-year-old.
As revealed by Matt Law of English outlet the Daily Telegraph, and since confirmed by a host of others, the Tottenham hierarchy are actively working to hijack Barcelona’s swoop for Bergvall, in the hopes of striking a deal of their own.
It now remains to be seen whether Barca have done enough, or are set to see one of European football’s most promising young talents slip through their fingers at the last.
