Transfer News: Tottenham in three-way battle for Abdul Mumin

According to transfer news from The Sun, Tottenham are in a three-way tussle for the signing of Abdul Mumin. Aston Villa and Newcastle are said to be the club who are after the £15m-rated Ghanian defender from Vitoria.

Profile

The 21-year-old came through the ranks of Right to Dream academy in Ghana and joined Nordsjaelland’s U19 side in the summer of 2016. A year later, he was promoted to the club’s senior set-up but failed to make the cut regularly. He was immediately sent on loan to HB Koge, where he developed with game time and returned to his parent club in the summer of 2018.

He was impressive in the Superligaen throughout last season and that attracted a lot of interest from several clubs in Europe. Portuguese side Vitoria finally managed to sign him this season as he has gone on to make 26 appearances in all competitions for them.

Spurs could use a new and young central defender

It has been a difficult season for Tottenham despite the positive start. Things have gone downhill since the festive period as there is the possibility of missing out on Champions League football. The likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have been largely unimpressive which means Spurs are looking at players like Abdul Mumin.

Signing Mumin from Vitoria would help them secure their defence for the future. A speedy and dominant defender with age on his side, Mumin looks like a decent player to invest in. With a modest price tag of £15m, Mumin is a player Spurs should look to sign.

It has also been said that Villa and Newcastle are also after the young Ghanian which makes it a bit tricky for Spurs. If the club want the player, they will have to start making early advances. Such a defender with potential is expected to be in demand once the transfer window opens.
