Tottenham Hotspur to face questioning from the Premier League regarding heading limits in training

The Premier League will question Tottenham Hotspur as Spurs avoid heading regulations in training

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur will face questions from the Premier League as they continue to disregard the heading limits in training.

New rules are being put in place in regards to heading in the sport to protect players as it has been understood that it could cause dementia. The statement put out by the Premier League read (h/t Daily Mail):

‘Player welfare is paramount, and the guidance is an important component. We continue to liaise with clubs and football partners on the guidance and will speak directly with the club to understand their challenges in implementing it.’

This recommendation meant that professional players should not have more than 10 high-forced headers. High-forced headers include, receiving a pass from more than a distance of 35 metres, crosses, corners, and free-kicks.

However, some clubs have not been following this rule during training sessions, including Tottenham Hotspur. Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be avoiding counting the headers in training. The former Wolves manager was questioned about this recently, and he responded, saying (h/t Daily Mail):

‘I’m concerned with the situation of dementia and what heading the ball can cause. It’s a big concern for us, but it’s part of the game. I don’t count how many times our players head the ball. Maybe I will get myself in trouble for this. But football is jumping, heading, it’s part of the game.’

Although they are not the only club that are avoiding these rules in training, the Premier League are now ready to question Spurs about the same. It remains to be seen if any actions are taken to enforce the guidelines, especially after the commends the Spurs boss made.
