Tottenham Hotspur could be in the market for fresh faces come January, and reports have emerged that they might make a move for Sporting Lisbon attacker Bruno Fernandes.

The north London outfit are in all sorts of problems right now as Mauricio Pochettino has a crucial period ahead.

Spurs had a couple of barren transfer windows before finally spending some money this past summer as they signed Tanguy Ndombele on a club-record deal and also roped in Giovani Lo Celso.

While the impact of the new signings cannot be gauged this early, there is no doubt that Spurs need a bit more verve in their attack.

As per Portuguese website A Bola, Tottenham are still interested in Fernandes, a player who made the headlines in the summer but remained at Lisbon.

Sporting’s asking price for Fernandes is a bit high considering most of his exploits have come in the Liga NOS, but his form this season has been as electrifying as the previous campaign, which has made teams stand up and take notice.

Bruno Fernandes is the freshness Tottenham’s attack needs

Tottenham’s attack has often looked a bit short on creativity, and though the midfield needs to take a lot of the blame, it’s evident that the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli have hit poor patches.

Pochettino’s style was never reliant on quick wingers as the creativity down the middle has always been the bedrock his side have been based on. That way, Fernandes could be the ideal player to add a bit more pizzazz to the team and the set-up.

So far this season, Fernandes has managed four goals and four assists so far this season in six league games, and has continued his impressive form from last season which shows he is no one-season wonder and is a quality player.

Fernandes has been used at the tip of a diamond set-up that Sporting have used this season which allows him to thread the final pass and have a go at goal as well. Considering it’s a system Spurs have used to good effect in the past, and have two new players in Lo Celso and Ndombele who can be used well, it seems like a no-brainer to go for him.

Eriksen’s contract expires in the summer and considering there haven’t been any talks about him signing a new deal, Tottenham will need a new arrival. Fernandes is the perfect fit, and Spurs should break the bank for him.
