According to a report from Football.london, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is in contention to win the AJ100 Building of the Year 2020 award.
The Architect’s Journal released a shortlist of nine buildings that are in the running to win the prestigious award, with our stadium being one among them. The honour is given in recognition of the finest building completed by an AJ100-listed practice in the past year. (h/t Football.london)
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was scheduled to open in 2018, but opened in April last year with a game against Crystal Palace. The state-of-the-art 62,303-capacity stadium, designed by Populous, was built at a cost of £1.2billion.
Since opening, the stadium has been heralded as one of the best in the country. Along with football matches, our stadium has also hosted two NFL games to great success. (h/t Football.london)
A number of high-profile events, such as a Lady Gaga concert, a Guns N’Roses concert as well as Anthony Joshua’s next Boxing heavyweight title defence, were scheduled to be held at the stadium. But all have been postponed due to the pandemic. (h/t Football.london)
The Tottenham Hotspur stadium has already won two prestigious awards this year. Our home was adjudged as the Venue of the Year at the 11th edition of TheStadiumBusiness Awards. This was followed by another award in the Stadium category at the mondo*dr Awards 2020.
Other nominees alongside our stadium for the AJ100 Building of the Year Awards include Brunel Building at Paddington, English National Ballet HQ in East London, Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology among others.
The winners of the prestigious honour will be announced in September later this year.
