Tang joined Shanghai in January 2016. She made 42 appearances to date over the course of two separate spells at the club.

The forward moved to Jiangsu Suning in January 2018, where she helped them clinch the title in 2019. During her time at the club, she made 25 appearances and found the back of the net 11 times.

Tang also scored a few key international goals as China reached the Tokyo Olympics that kicked off on Wednesday with China losing their opening game 5-0 to Brazil.

Tang made her senior debut for China in December 2014 against the US. She later earned a nomination for Best Young Player of the Tournament at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Tottenham making waves

On signing for Spurs, Tang explained, “I am so happy to be joining Tottenham Hotspur. I am a big fan of Premier League football and I’ve always dreamt of playing in England. I can’t wait to arrive in London, and I hope I can help make it a successful season for the team.”

Ahead of the new season, Spurs have already signed Maéva Clemaron and goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela from Everton.

On signing Tang, Tottenham head coach Rehanne Skinner said, “We are really excited to have a player of Tang’s quality coming to Spurs. She has been a prolific goalscorer in the Chinese Super League and instrumental in helping China in their successful Olympic qualifying campaign. The additional strengths Tang brings to the team will be key to our success moving into the new season.”

Tottenham will learn their Women’s Super League fixtures this coming Friday, July 23.
