The Sun has recently reported that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in recruiting Corinthians starlet Rodrigo Varanda this summer after scouting him over the past few years. It has been revealed that Spurs have held initial talks over an £8.5m move to land the Brazilian attacker before the start of the new campaign (via The Sun).

Varanda’s Excellent Rise In Brazilian Football

The Guarulhos-born youngster has come through the youth ranks of Corinthians and has managed to break into their first team this season. Varanda has been involved in ten senior matches for the Brazilian side, scoring one goal and grabbing one assist in various competitions.

At such a tender age, the 18-year-old has already begun to show some glimpses of his true potential, so Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will do well to bring him to the English capital during the summer transfer period.

His pace and dribbling ability has made him a joy to watch in Brazilian football. However, Varanda is still quite inexperienced in senior football which means that Spurs would have to be patient with his development if they can get a deal over the line for him in this off-season.

Is Varanda A Prospect For The Future?

Varanda is a quick and agile striker who can play in multiple positions across the frontline. He is a secondary forward but can also fill in as a winger out on either flank if needed. The Brazilian whizkid is a great dribbler with the ball and tends to come alive when left isolated in a 1v1 footrace. He can also contribute by scoring or setting up the odd goal but is still far from a finished product.

At 18, Varanda is in for a very bright future as long as he works hard to improve his game on the training field. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Spurs should consider making a fair offer to lure him to the Premier League this summer.

Varanda will be a worthy addition to Tottenham’s academy and could grow into a real gem for them in the years to come. The early signs have been quite encouraging from the player, so it is safe to assume that he is a future star in the making. However, Varanda would have to add more muscle to his upper body if he wants to withstand the physical nature of English football.
